Wemma, Holding Our Hearts In Their Hands

As much as everything else in the proposal sequence, it was the way Wemma held hands that held my heart. Like true Wemma fanatics let's take an up close and personal look at their hands.

It's not just Will taking Emma's hand and leading her, it's Emma holding Will's hand across her body, it's their arms joined, their shoulders joined, it's the firmness of the clasp of their hands. They're not just 'side by side' they move as one. If skin and bone weren't in the way they would be one.

It's a handhold that conveys trust, protection, 'don't ever leave me' and 'I'm never letting go.'

Emma doesn't use one hand to accept the flowers and the other to collect them, she receives and holds them all in the one hand while the other remains firmly attached to Will. He doesn't walk ahead or behind her, they are on equal footing, as they have been portrayed in all episodes this season. He can barely let go of her when he shows her to her seat and even in the few paces he takes to walk away, his hands point back at her as if to say, 'Don't move, don't run away, I'm coming straight back.' (She has been known to run from the unknown, from scary and possibly messy situations, but this one is looking totally romantic and clean!)

As soon as he exits the swimming pool and is standing before her he takes her hand again and of course his speech contains the memory of holding her hand for the first time. Not a sexy moment, but a single touch that was at once profound and soul defining. The Emma Pillsbury romantic geiger counter is off the charts! Throughout the whole speech Will never lets go (apart from when he retrieves the ring out of his jacket pocket) of Emma's hand.

Hand holding. It says: I care, I understand, I support, I cherish, I want, I need, I desire, I protect, I trust, I reassure, I love you.

Throughout this entire sequence Will holds 'the world' in his hands.

Bliss.

Let's end with this quote because it reminds me of Wemma:

'Cherish your vision; cherish your ideals. Cherish the music that stirs in your heart, the beauty that forms in your mind, the loveliness that drapes your purest thoughts. If you remain true to them, your world will at last be built.' - James Allen. (No idea who he is, I found this quote on the liner note of a Jewel CD!)
